Sulla “Punta” dell’isola su cui si trovava la Dogana della Repubblica Marinara (oggi museo di arte contemporanea) verso il bacino portuale, una solitaria lanterna in ghisa con vetri leggermente rosati segna il punto in cui il Canal Grande (a sinistra ) e il Canale della Giudecca (a destra) convergono nel bacino portuale. Accanto alla chiesa di San Giorgio Maggiore (a destra) il grande complesso del monastero benedettino con un ampio giardino, oggi parco privato.

Blick vom Dogenpalast über das Hafenbecken hinweg zum Giudecca Kanal, dessen Auftakt links das Kloster San Giorgio darstellt. Dem Wasserverlauf folgend die palladianisch inspirierte Kirche Santa Maria della Presentazione (“le Zitelle” genannt) und rechts am Zusammenfluss von Giudecca Kanal und Canal Grande die alte Zollstation, Dogana, mit kugelbekröntem Türmchen, auf dem die Fortuna, das Glück, ihre Fahne in den Wind hängt.

A lonely cast iron lantern with slightly pink-coloured glass marks the point on the top (“Punta”) of the island where the customs house (today a museum of contemporary art) of the Maritime Republic was located and where the Canal Grande (left) and the Giudecca Canal (right) converge in the harbour basin. Next to the Church of San Giorgio (right) is the large complex of the attached Benedictine monastery with a large garden, now a private park.
