La chiesa a pianta centrale della Beata Madre della “Salute” fu costruita come chiesa votiva dopo la devastante epidemia di peste del 1630, su progetto dell’architetto Baldassare Longhena. Di fronte a lei il complesso del seminario e della vecchia dogana. La chiesa della Salute si trova, insieme al seminario e la vecchia dogana su un tratto di isola che ha la forma di un triangolo. Al vertice del triangolo, la “Punta della Dogana”, è stata realizzata la torretta della dogana. La fortuna sta sulla punta della dogana in cima alla torre e mostra di essere mutevole cambiando direzione, come una banderuola gira con il vento in modo imprevedibile.

The Church of the Blessed Mother of “Health” was built as a votive church after the devastating plague epidemic of 1630, based on a design by the architect Baldassare Longhena. In front is the complex of the seminary and the old customs house. The “Health” church is located with the seminary and the old customs house on a triangular section of the island. The turret of the customs house was erected at the top of the triangle, at the “Punta della Dogana”. Fortuna, or luck, stands on the globe at the top of the turret – as a weather vane always turning with the wind. At this point the two large watercourses of the Canale della Giudecca (left) and the Canal Grande (right) merge into the harbor basin, up to 12m deep nowadays.

Die Kuppelkirche der Gottesmutter der “Gesundheit” wurde nach Entwürfen des Architekten Baldassare Longhena im Anschluss an die verheerende Pestepidemie von 1630 errichtet. Vor ihr der Komplex des Priesterseminars und der alten Zollstation. Die Salutekirche liegt mit dem Priesterseminar und der alten Zollstation auf einem Inselabschnitt, der die Form eines Dreieckes hat. Das Türmchen der Zollstaton wurde an der Spitze des Dreieckes errichtet, der “Punta della Dogana”. Die Fortuna auf dem Türmchen dreht sich als Wetterfahne im Wind und ist unbeständig wie das Glück. An dieser Stelle fließen die beiden großen Wasserläufe des Canale della Giudecca (links) und des Canal Grande (rechts) zusammen und münden in das Hafenbecken, das heute eine Tiefe von bis zu 18 m hat.
