Vista su di un pontile verso l’isola conventuale di San Giorgio Maggiore, uno dei monasteri più antichi della laguna. Il monastero benedettino fu istituito nel X secolo da una fondazione del ricco doge Tribuno Memmo. Il complesso è stato ammodernato nel XVI secolo grazie all’architetto Andrea Palladio autore del progetto della chiesa ispirata, secondo sembianze moderne, ad un tempio pagano. Nel monastero ancora oggi è presente una piccola comunità di monaci.

Blick über einen Bootsanleger auf Klosterinsel San Giorgio Maggiore, welche eine der ältesten Klosteranlagen der Lagune ist. Das Benediktinerkloster wurde im 10. Jh durch eine Stiftung des reichen Dogen Tribuno Memmo gegründet. Im 16. Jh wurde der Komplex modernisiert. Nach den Entwürfen Andrea Palladios wurde die Kirche in dem modernen Gewand eines heidnischen Temples neu errichtet. Auch heute noch lebt eine kleine Gemeinschaft von Mönchen im Kloster.

View from the jetty towards San Giorgio Maggiore’s monastery island, on which is one of the oldest monastery complexes in the lagoon. The Benedictine monastery was founded in the 10^thcentury thanks to a donation of the wealthy Doge Tribuno Memmo. The complex was modernized in the 16^thcentury thanks to the architect Andrea Palladio who drew the plans of the church with modern features following the model of a pagan temple. A small community of monks still lives in the monastery today.
